Lions and Gardens and Cities, Oh My!

SINGAPORE. The Lion City, the Garden City, a city-state island nation at the bottom of the Malay Peninsula that has no trash cans and no trash. Honestly, the city is extremely clean but I don’t remember seeing a single trash can during our time there, nor do I remember seeing any litter. Does everyone just carry around their trash? I may never know the real answer. This city is such an anomaly on the Earth, and that’s part of why I love it so much.

During my trip to SE Asia earlier this year, my wife and I used Singapore as a central hub, passing through three times during the trip but only staying in the country once for two nights, and OH I wish we would have stayed two more days. I’m a total nerd on transportation, walk-ability, urban design, and all that city stuff, and Singapore definitely scratched that itch. I really enjoyed using the Tourist Pass card for unlimited public transit to hop anywhere in the city I wanted so easily. And I didn’t have to worry about how much it would cost or loading money onto a card.

So Singapore, you weird, unusual, anomalous city-state, I will be back to explore more of your depths and unusual attractions. This was a short blog for a short stay in the country, but next time, I’ll stay for more than just one full day. But until then, the full Singapore gallery is up now here on journeywithryan.com, the full video of my One Day in Singapore is at youtube.com/@journeywithryan, and I’ll be posting the highlights on my instagram, @journeywithryan. I’ll see you back here on the blog for my next adventure!
